This website gives general information about alcohol and ways to change your drinking. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from your GP, pharmacist, an alcohol service or another qualified professional who knows your circumstances.

If you drink every day, or you get withdrawal symptoms when you go without alcohol, do not stop drinking suddenly. Talk to your GP or local alcohol service first. Don't start, stop or change any medicine without professional advice.

This site is not a counselling or treatment service, and cannot respond to emergencies. If you or someone else is in danger, call 999.

We aim to keep the information accurate and up to date. Pages were last reviewed in October 2026. Services, phone numbers and guidance can change.
